Privacy at the Library

Corangamite Regional Library Corporation keeps members records as part of its service to our users. The Library complies with the principles of the Information Privacy Act 2000 (Vic), which covers personal records and their protection.

When you join the library you are asked to show current identification and to complete a membership form. The information you provide is entered into the membership database by Library staff.

Your personal library record may not be accessed by anyone other than Library staff, and then only for the purpose of carrying out Library transactions.

Your record includes your:

  • Name and address
  • Telephone number(s)
  • Postal address (if required)
  • Date of birth
  • Parent and guardian details in the case of children's membership

As well you record will include details of:

  • Any Library items that you may have on loan
  • Currently outstanding fees or lost/damaged book accounts
  • Any reservations you may have placed

Corangamite Regional Library Corporation does not release personal information to external bodies or individuals apart from compliance with legislation or a court order.

Corangamite Regional Library Corporation library management system is protected to ensure that personal records are not made available to unauthorised persons.

You are entitled to see your own computer record at any time on production of your Library card or appropriate identification.
